What I Liked About This Movie

Before watching this movie I had no idea who Bill Hicks was and after finishing I have a much clearer idea. To be honest though the majority of his material does not appeal to me but unlike most comedy documentaries American’s effectiveness does not hinge on liking the comedian. Bill Hicks lead an interesting life and by hearing his family/friends talk about him you really get a sense of who he was and why he became a comedian.

The Bill Hicks Story employs a faux photo realistic style of animation that uses actual photos of him and his friends which I have seen used before in commercials but never to weave a story together. It is incredibly effective and combined with the archival footage of Bill Hicks standup gives the movie a very intimate vibe.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Goes on a bit too long.

Should You Watch This Movie?

This is one of the best comedian documentaries I have seen.
