Boogie Nights Review

Boogie Nights chronicles the life a young porn star (Mark Wahlberg) in the 70’s and 80’s.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

People who like movies with lots of characters in them.

What I Liked About This Movie

Boogie Nights cannot be easily summed up. It focuses on family, ambition, over indulgence, utilization of skill sets, and of course sex (but not really). Most directors would pick one or two main themes and run with them but Paul Thomas Anderson manages to intertwine all of those themes and handle a slew of character arcs throughout the entire movie.

Boogie Nights Photo

There are so many memorable scenes in Boogie Nights and upon repeat viewings it seems to get better. Boogie Nights is over two hours long but it feels like it flies through its complex plotting because of its quick editing and constant momentum shifts. I have mentioned there are tons of characters but Burt Reynolds and Mark Wahlberg steal every scene they are in they both brought their A game to their roles in this movie; Walhberg especially since he was given a meaty part (no pun intended) and excelled.

What Didn’t Work For Me
