After stealing money from her employer a young lady (Vera Miles) lays her head at a motel (Anthony Perkins) run by a strange man.

Who is the Audience for This Movie?

Fans of slasher movies.

What I Liked About This Movie

Psycho has the best build up to payoff plot EVER. It utilizes the majority of its run time setting up a character that we know will meet an untimely demise and in that time keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering how and when it will happen. The scene in question has now become iconic in the eyes of movie watchers but its not the only thing that makes Psycho one of the greatest movies of all time. Sure the movie looks nice but that is to be expected of a Hitchcock movie what sets Psycho apart is the lead actor and its soundtrack.

Psycho Photo

Psycho’s soundtrack is in no way subtle but it hits you when it kicks in and it amps up the horror scenes. I like the in your face style of it because the movie is so tense that its perfectly fitting to hit the audience with abrasive sounds. Anthony Perkins may have not gone on to become a big movie star because of Psycho. As Norman Bates he is downright terrifying and mesmerizing at the same time after seeing him in Psycho you cant really see him as any other character because he embodied Bates so perfectly.

What Didn’t Work For Me

Only one scene shows the movies age. After the big climax there is a 2 minute scene in which a character basically explains everything that happened. Older movies used scenes like the one in psycho to make it easier for people who couldn’t figure the movie out on their own to understand what they saw.

Should You Watch This Movie?

It is the perfect slasher movie.
